As Andy broke yesterday, after a busy month of squashing bugs since the beta release we have finished the code for EditLive! 6.0 and it should be making its way onto our web site in the next few days.
The biggest enhancement is the new Productivity Pack which includes Track Changes, Equation Editor and Thesaurus. This is big news in that this makes EditLive! the first online editor offering the very important feature of Track Changes. The Thesaurus is pretty neat too (the Equation Editor has been out for a while already).
Track Changes
Track Changes is crucially important to content management systems and wikis where multiple people are collaborating on the same document. If you have ever asked "what changed between the last version?" and want to have a fast, effective way of reviewing these changes, this is going to help a lot.
Developing Track Changes has taken a long time with quite significant changes to our architecture to support it and the many test cases we needed to cover. Track Changes was also the largest feature we have implemented using test driven development. TDD was crucial to us because of the number of parts of the code it touched and the potential for problems if the code wasn't very high quality. Adrian, Doug and Andy have been talking about our adoption of XP during the past year.
More Enhancements
Adrian also discusses the "suck less" feature of not losing content when people click the back button that most people won't notice but is very helpful.
There have been numerous other improvements including a better Styles drop-down for applying classes and styles to content. For example, you can now apply classes to table cells, rows, etc.
Hopefully we have many happy users of these new features/products!
