John van Antwerp to present at Gilbane San Francisco
The University of Maryland University College has built the largest accredited online university in the U.S. We are very pleased to announce that John van Antwerp, the instigator and designer for UMUC's WebTycho system will be presenting a Web Content Management case study at the Gilbane Conference at 2 pm Thursday 12 April 2007. The Gilbane Conference runs from 10 to 12 April in San Francisco
John van Antwerp will describe how UMUC exchanges rich educational content in 130 languages for 212,000 enrolments across the world. The WebTycho system enables even the most technically challenged students to create and submit sophisticated, richly formatted documents in pure XHTML. All of this is performed with the Ephox EditLive! interface. Many of UMUC's students are military service people. An interesting factoid that John shared with us: one of UMUC's students submitted an assignment from a submarine using the EditLive! editor!
UMUC is moving to technologies that will enable rich content delivery and collaboration on chat boards, instant messengers through a universal online interface. John will also talk about the web content management system and related applications that are now in use at UMUC and the thinking behind their development. He will focus on the key issues of user adoption and usability and why UMUC succeeded in growing from 60,000 enrolments 3 years ago to its present size of 212,000 enrolments.
Ephox will also be exhibiting at Gilbane. Contact us for a free pass to the exhibition floor.
