Who said applets are slow? EditLive! 6.1

I have just started working with the latest release of EditLive! (v6.1) to update content on the ephox.com website. Wow, its really fast!! A big pat on the back for the dev team is in order. I can now save a page and re-open it with the editor in a second or two. This is even faster than launching MS Word on my desktop.

Why is this a big deal? Since I upgraded to Firefox 2.0 (my preferred browser) I have experienced crashes both with and without Java applets running. This speed improvement means that it is no longer a pain to save my edits. I am now saving my edits every few minutes or so because it is so quick. So now I don't have to worry about browser crashes.

At Gilbane I watched a demo of EditLive! on Percussion's Rythmyx CMS and was again blown away by the speed of the editor load time.

Hi AJ,

I am working on an applet and am having the same troubles you were. Can you give me an example of how you did the progress bar, or some steps to achieve the same result.

Cheers,
Will (from Australia)
